God has done amazing things for all of us here at GoodNews Church and we are excited to share about them with everyone that we meet. We have seen Him work in our lives in ways that we could never have imagined possible and we know that He doesn't show favouritism - if He can do it for us, He can do it for you.
Quyen's Story
When my Mum was pregnant with me, she went to a fortune teller to ask about my future. The fortune teller told my Mum that she was carrying an evil creature – me. My mum believed every word he said, and she was ready to abort me. Just as she was about to go to the clinic, an elder man from my village came and he told my Mum, “If this child is an evil creature then I will have it, and you can pretend you never had this baby.”
Four months later I was born into this world, healthy as any baby could be, with red lips and a beautiful face. However, my Mum couldn’t see anything about me that was beautiful. She abandoned me when I was 5 weeks old. At that precise moment, a lady came to her and told my Mum that she would have me, and paid my Mum £25. That lady became my adopted mother, and she told me about the Lord Jesus Christ. There were many hardships, but I believe if it wasn’t for my adopted Mum’s faith in the Lord, we would never have overcome those things.
However, my adopted Mum went to be with the Lord when I was just 14 years old. My world seemed to come to an end. Not even once did I cry out to God for help; I had many burdens and hatred. Even if I did, it would have been: “Why did you take away everything I have?” I cursed and cursed Him.
Then I was trafficked to England, unlike many children who have been trafficked to many countries nearer to my country. Many people have said I was lucky to come here, I was lucky to have met many “good” people. Yes, maybe there is such thing as luck, but how can it happen over and over again? You might have known what sort of jobs would be expected of trafficked children, women, and men. However, in my case, the guy took me to the Police station, he even told me to have a good life, and that everything would be ok. I got into care, and after the first 5 weeks in England, there was no hope for me. After my asylum interview with the Home Office was done, I was transferred to Chippenham to live with my then foster carer. She was the only one available to take me in the whole of the UK. Things worked out, and she then became my second adopted Mum (not legally). I had a family that I always wanted, and then I started to go to church. First, I thought it would look good. Secondly, I thought I could show God what I can do by myself. But, I was never able to settle in the Catholic Church. One day I asked my adopted sister if I could join her church. As soon as I walked into GoodNews, something in me was lifted up.
I know for a fact that I would not be alive now if it wasn't for God's mercy. That's why I've accepted and invited Jesus to be my Saviour and got baptized in His name. From that day, my life isn't the same and I'm not the same person. Sometimes, you can see things in your life change but most of the time it ends up hurting you. However, there is a way to see changes in your life that will only bring happiness if you come and ask Him to forgive you and to take control of your life. As He (Jesus) has promised:" For I know the plans I have for you - declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". Jeremiah 29:11.
Looking back, I’ve realised that God has been there with me all along, even when I was in my mother’s womb. He saved me time after time, faithfully, even when I’d turned my back on Him and took every credit. How many times in the day have I not told myself that My God is a merciful and faithful God. He helps me in everything I do, like studying and working. He made a way and gave me the right university where He knew I would be happy. Life isn’t always easy. I’ve learned of God’s love for me a hard way, but I never regret now that I understand His mysterious way and that He has a plan for me.
